From May 20th, 2016 until July 1st, 2018, I owned and operated a yoga studio called Stellar Yoga Space at 915 Fulton Street #2L in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn.
We closed the studio year due to the expensive and extremely competitive health and wellness market of NYC, exacerbated due to third-party apps like ClassPass and MindBody. 90% of our clients were ClassPass and they were keeping 60% of our profits.
But I still believe in the healing and transformative power of yoga, and moreover I love teaching private clients and small group classes. I find it a lot more rewarding both as a teacher and a practitioner--I wasn't able to build relationships with the drop-in fitness culture of NYC, and now there's a lot fewer people asking me to haggle over my rates and packages. I'm still not sure how I feel about the fitness industry, but I know that yoga helps people and I get a lot of satisfaction by helping them.
I am a certified yoga teacher with Strala Yoga NYC (200hr+ Ready-to-Lead Training 2014 graduate) and a certified RYT Teacher 200HR with Lara Heimann's YogaStream program. I am currently working a 300HR RYT with physical therapist and master yoga teacher Lara Heimann, and have completed an additional 150 hours towards my 500HR YogaAlliance certification. I am enrolling in more workshops this year to complete my training ASAP.
I am also a disability rights advocate and a disabled American: I have rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and fibromyalgia. I offer my clients a customized yoga program to help them relieve injuries and practice yoga without pain and in ways that are sensitive to their bodies and that accommodates their injuries or disabilities.
I offer private yoga sessions weekly or around your schedule, both online or in person, either at my Brooklyn studio or at your home. Please contact me to discuss rates and scheduling. I use FONS to schedule clients: http://app.fons.com/ .
I am the Musicologist Yogi and I volunteer my services as a yoga teacher to guide group classes at the national meetings of the American Musicological Society.
